Why we started

Walk down any grocery store aisle and you'll find shelves full of products labeled "natural" that are anything but. Most commercial soaps are synthetic detergents — surfactants derived from petroleum byproducts that strip your skin of its natural oils, irritate sensitive skin, and introduce harsh chemicals into your home and waterways.

We started Natural Soap Outpost because we believed there was a better way: real soap, made from real ingredients, at a price that makes it accessible to every family — not just those who can afford the premium health store markup.

Our goal is simple. Make premium natural soap and lotion affordable and available to everyone. Not just the eco-crowd. Everyone.

What makes our soap different

Real soap is made through saponification — a chemical reaction between plant-based oils and an alkali (potassium hydroxide) that transforms fats into a gentle cleansing agent. The result naturally retains glycerin, which keeps skin soft and hydrated. Commercial detergents remove glycerin to sell it separately, leaving your skin dry and stripped.

Our foaming liquid soap is built on a carefully balanced blend of oils chosen for what each one contributes to your skin:

• Coconut oil — rich lather, deep cleansing
• Olive oil — conditioning, gentle on sensitive skin
• Shea butter — lasting moisture, soothing properties
• Castor oil — thick, stable foam that lingers

We combine these oils in the right ratios to create a soap that cleans thoroughly while keeping skin soft, hydrated, and comfortable — suitable for hands, body, and face, including drier skin types.

No parabens. No phthalates. No palm oil. No artificial fragrances. No petroleum derivatives. Just ingredients you can read, pronounce, and trust.

Our story

Our story has roots in Kenya, where our love for nature and the environment inspired us to create a business that harmonizes with the earth. Kenya's landscapes — its forests, farms, and artisan communities — shaped our belief that the best ingredients come from working with nature, not against it.

We brought that philosophy to Cypress, TX, where we set out to make genuinely natural soap available to Houston families and, eventually, households across the United States. What started as a small operation has grown into a full product line: foaming liquid soap in half-gallon and gallon refills, cold process bar soap, silky lotion, and the glass dispensers and starter kits to go with them.

We were featured in Voyage Houston Magazine's Spotlight on Local Businesses series — a recognition we're proud of, and one that reflects the community that has supported us from the beginning.

A single-use plastic soap bottle thrown away every two weeks adds up to 26 plastic bottles per person per year. Our half-gallon refill pouch replaces 3–4 dispenser fills — that's 3–4 fewer plastic bottles per refill purchased.

We designed our refill pouches specifically to reduce this waste. They're lighter to ship, take up less landfill space than rigid bottles, and pair with our reusable glass dispensers that are built to last for years. Small switches made consistently add up to meaningful change — for your household and for the planet.

Sustainable living doesn't have to mean an overhaul of your entire routine. It starts with what you reach for every day at the sink.

How we make our soap

Every batch of our liquid soap is made using the hot process method — a traditional soap-making technique that uses heat to accelerate saponification and produce a fully finished soap without the long cure time required by cold process bar soap.

Hot process liquid soap is crafted by combining our plant-based oils with a potassium hydroxide solution and cooking the mixture at a controlled temperature until saponification is complete. The result is a soap that is already fully saponified when it goes into the bottle — meaning every pump delivers exactly what we formulated, batch after batch.

Our cold process bar soaps follow a different path: oils and lye are combined at room temperature, poured into molds, and cured for several weeks. The slower cure develops a harder, longer-lasting bar with a creamier lather. This is why a well-kept bar of our handmade soap outlasts a commercial bar by weeks — and why storing it on a dry soap dish between uses matters.
